In response to political pressure, the federal government is considering dissolving the boards of federal agencies and parastatals.
While some positions are tenured, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has reportedly been given the go-ahead to dissolve and reconstitute the managements and boards of these organizations.
This has sparked interest from political lobbyists who are hoping to be appointed in the event of the dissolution.
The move is expected to help President Bola Tinubu shape the agenda of his administration, and some senior civil servants believe it would not be out of place for Tinubu to dissolve the boards of federal parastatals inherited from former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari himself carried out a similar cleansing exercise in 2015, dissolving the governing boards of federal parastatals, agencies, and institutions.
The dissolution of the boards is expected to affect about 42 agencies and parastatals directly under the supervision of the OSGF.
