FIFA Honors Nigerian Football Legend Rashidi Yekini

On the anniversary of his passing, FIFA paid tribute to Nigerian football legend Rashidi Yekini, who was the first Nigerian player to score at the World Cup.

His impressive goal-scoring record helped Nigeria qualify for the World Cup, and he remains the country’s greatest and most prolific marksman with 37 goals from just 58 appearances.

Yekini was known for scoring historic goals, including the one that opened Nigeria’s account at the global finals.

His former teammate Sunday Oliseh praised him as “one of the best African players and legends to ever walk this earth.”

Despite his passing 11 years ago, Yekini’s legacy in Nigerian football lives on.
