Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda has commended Chelsea for acquiring Cole Palmer from Manchester City. Malouda believes that Palmer’s performance reminds him of Kylian Mbappe when he first burst onto the scene.

Palmer has been a shining light for Chelsea this season, with 21 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, making him the most effective under 21 player in Europe’s top five leagues.

Despite Chelsea’s disappointing season, sitting ninth in Mauricio Pochettino’s first campaign in charge after finishing 12th last season, Palmer has been a standout performer.

The club’s management by Todd Boehly and Clearlake has come under scrutiny following a £1bn spend that has made the team worse. However, Palmer’s success has been undeniable.

Malouda, who spent six years at Chelsea between 2007 and 2013, has been impressed by Palmer’s progress. He believes that Palmer’s impact is reminiscent of Mbappe’s when he first caught the eye for Monaco.

While Palmer is slightly older than Mbappe was during his breakthrough, his decision-making, calmness, and ability remind Malouda of Mbappe.

Malouda suggests that Chelsea should plan to build their team around Palmer for years to come.
