Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to take over as head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT).

He will sign a two-year contract positioning him to lead the team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States will co-host.

Pochettino, whose managerial career includes stints at Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, was once linked to high-profile Spanish clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

His time at PSG, managing a squad with superstars Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., and Kylian Mbappé, and his inability to halt Chelsea’s struggles, have negatively impacted his reputation.

Despite these setbacks, his appointment to lead the USMNT is seen as a strategic move by the U.S. Soccer Federation to bring experience and a fresh perspective ahead of a major tournament on home soil.

In recent years, Pochettino has been linked to major clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona, but those opportunities didn’t materialize.

Instead, he finds himself taking on an exciting project with the USMNT, where he will aim to maximize the potential of American soccer talent on the world stage.
