The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has taken a new turn with the emergence of new ward executives from the Ganduje ward.
These executives have issued a fresh suspension on the national chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The group claims to be the legitimate ward executives, having been legally and validly elected on July 31, 2021.
Addressing journalists in Kano, the secretary of the Ganduje ward, Ja’afar Adamu Ganduje, spoke on behalf of the 11 other executive members.
They explained that the suspension of the former governor of Kano State was necessary due to allegations of anti-party activities exhibited by Ganduje.
These activities reportedly led to division and the failure of the party during the last election. Ja’afar Adamu Ganduje, who is also Ganduje’s nephew, accused the embattled APC chairman of igniting conflicts of interest that resulted in two factional executives within the ward.
This, in turn, brought the party’s reputation into disrepute among the public. The secretary further alleged that Ganduje had not been paying his statutory party dues.
“We are the authentic executives of the Ganduje ward, and we have passed a vote of no confidence and imposed a new suspension on Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for several reasons,” stated Adamu.
“First, we have suspended Dr. Ganduje’s membership for creating internal conflicts among party members at the ward level. Another major reason is the issue of anti-party activities he generated during the 2023 elections, which resulted in the party’s failure in the state.”
Adamu revealed that the two factions claiming to be ward executives from the Ganduje ward are fake and impostors orchestrated by Dr. Ganduje and other individuals with ill intentions within the party.
He also made it clear that the authentic Ganduje ward leaders would not hesitate to take legal action against these factions.
It remains to be seen how the party will come out of these challenges and restore unity within its ranks.
