The recent increase in petrol prices in Nigeria has been met with widespread criticism and condemnation from various groups and individuals.
Many argue that the government should have used the N500 billion allocated for fuel subsidy removal to purchase buses and distribute them to every state, which would have helped alleviate the transportation difficulties faced by Nigerians.
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) strongly condemned the petrol price hike, stating that it would lead to increased poverty and suffering for the masses.
The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) also expressed its opposition to the price increase, highlighting the challenges faced by businesses and consumers amid rising inflation and impending increases in electricity tariffs.
However, Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, assuring them that the sacrifices made due to the fuel subsidy removal would eventually benefit them.
Oyebanji also expressed gratitude to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the president for choosing Opeyemi Bamidele as Senate Majority Leader, stating that he is a capable representative who will contribute to the implementation of the president’s agenda.
