The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed concerns over alleged attempts by certain party members to undermine the party’s constitution through strategic litigation focused on the roles of the chairmanship and secretary.

BOT Chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, raised this issue during the opening session of the BOT meeting held prior to the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party headquarters.

Wabara emphasized the deep concerns regarding the current leadership structure within the party, describing it as a significant issue that weighs heavily on the collective conscience of party members.

He pointed out that the current acting chairman has been in office for over a year, contrary to the usual practice of the party, which states that the region from which the national officer hails should produce a viable candidate to complete the former national officer’s tenure.

Furthermore, the issue surrounding the office of the national secretary has caused discord within the party. The ambiguity surrounding this position has led to confusion and internal strife, hindering the collective efforts to pursue the party’s objectives.

Wabara highlighted that the solutions to these challenges are clearly outlined in the party’s constitution, but deliberate litigations have made it impossible to apply these constitutional solutions.

The NEC meeting provided an invaluable opportunity for the party to reflect on its state, the challenges it faces, and the necessary steps to move forward with progress and unity.

Wabara acknowledged the demands and quest for direction from Nigerians and party members, particularly during this critical time in the nation’s life.

He emphasized that Nigerians are currently going through a perilous time and expect the party to put its house in order and effectively lead the charge to rescue the nation from the stranglehold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The BOT meeting aimed to urgently come up with practical solutions to the challenges facing the party at this time.
