Five Al Jazeera journalists were killed when an Israeli strike hit a press tent near Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital, www.naijnaira.com reports.
The network named the victims as Anas al-Sharif, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Moamen Aliwa, and Mohammed Noufal.
They were among seven people who died while stationed outside the hospital’s main gate.
Al Jazeera told BBC that the reporters were not on the battlefield but covering events from a designated press area.
“Anas was the only voice telling the world what was happening in Gaza,” said managing editor Mohamed Moawad.
Israel’s military claimed al-Sharif was a Hamas commander overseeing rocket attacks and accused him of using journalism as cover, citing seized documents.
Al Jazeera dismissed the claims as “a desperate attempt to silence voices.”
Before his death, al-Sharif had written, “I never hesitated to convey the truth as it is.”
Press groups condemned the attack and questioned Israel’s evidence.
