Steven Gerrard has parted ways with Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq after 18 months in charge, with the club struggling in the bottom half of the table.
Gerrard joined in July 2023 and he failed to lead the team to a title challenge, finishing sixth last season, 48 points behind champions Al Hilal.
This season, Al Ettifaq are 12th, having won only five of their first 17 games, leading to a mutual agreement to terminate Gerrard’s contract.
Al Ettifaq president Samer Al Misehal expressed gratitude for Gerrard’s efforts, noting that although things didn’t go as planned, the foundations laid by the manager will ensure a bright future for the club.
Gerrard thanked the club, players, and fans for their support, reflecting positively on his experience in Saudi Arabia despite the challenges.
He expressed respect for the club and country, believing that the work done will lead to future success.
Having signed a contract extension through 2027 in January 2024, Gerrard’s final match with the team was a 2-2 draw against Al Wehda.
The former England international, who previously managed Rangers and Aston Villa, will now searching for his fourth managerial role.
