The Ghana Armed Forces have confirmed that the remains of the eight victims from the recent military helicopter crash have arrived in Accra – www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to Punch, the Z-9 helicopter lost contact while en route from Accra to Obuasi, a southern town known for its gold mines, during an official mission.
The incident, which occurred near Adansi Akrofuom in the Sikaman area of the Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of high-profile officials, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The remains were flown back to the capital on August 6 aboard a Ghana Air Force Casa aircraft and received at the Air Force Base in Accra.
A crowd of military officials, government representatives, and mourners, led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, gathered in solemn respect.
The Ghana Armed Forces noted that all bodies had been recovered and moved to the 37 Military Hospital for preservation ahead of burial.
“The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Brogya Genfi, and the Military High Command extend their deepest condolences to the families,” said Captain Veronica Arhin.
President Bola Tinubu also reached out to Ghana’s President John Mahama, expressing his grief over the tragic loss of senior government officials.
“This is a painful national loss, and Nigeria stands with Ghana in solidarity and prayer,” Tinubu said in a statement through his adviser, Bayo Onanuga.
The military praised the residents of Sikaman and local security forces for their assistance in the recovery efforts at the crash site.
