Manchester United’s push for a new midfielder just got complicated as Bayern Munich have decided Leon Goretzka won’t be going anywhere – www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to CFBayerninsider.com, Bayern’s change of stance comes after Joao Palhinha left for Tottenham, forcing the club to hold onto Goretzka for depth and stability.
The German midfielder was previously seen as a potential casualty in Bayern’s summer clear-out, and United had monitored his status closely for multiple windows.
Interest from Old Trafford dated back to 2021, and each summer seemed to reignite rumors of a Premier League switch.
But the situation shifted quickly after Vincent Kompany reinstated Goretzka into the starting eleven, rebuilding trust in the process.
“He fought back brilliantly and got his spot back,” the report noted, adding that the exit of Palhinha essentially closed the door on any transfer.
United have already spent big on attackers this window, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo joining for a combined £128.5 million.
A €75 million bid for Benjamin Sesko also shows where their attention has largely been.
Still, manager Ruben Amorim wants a strong, athletic midfielder and will need to look elsewhere before the transfer window closes.
