Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has come under fire for his failure to name a preferred presidential candidate which he had earlier suggested he would do in January.
The governor had stated that he would back a certain individual by making their name public and campaigning nationally, but as January passed, his decision remained unknown.
Most recently, with aides sharing a photo of the APC’s Bola Tinubu with the caption “Is about time,” speculation grew.
But in an interview, Wike said he never specified how or when he intended to make this choice known.
As part of the G5 governors (a group consisting of five PDP members who are opposed to the idea of the North holding both party chairman and presidential candidate roles), Wike has been in opposition due to claims that the system isn’t just or fair.
Dakuku Peterside then challenged the Governor to state his chosen candidate publicly.
In response, Wike called out Peterside but failed to provide specifics regarding how or when he intended to reveal his decision – earning him criticism from some including APC Chieftain, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze who called him a coward and someone lacking in vision and capacity.
Former lawmaker Shehu Sani also chimed in that their endorsement is becoming irrelevant as citizens may have already made up their minds about those they support.
However, Wike’s team declined attempts for an explanation for further details on his choice for presidential candidate.
