How VAR Has Changed Liverpool’s Premier League Relegation race
VAR technology has had an undeniable impact on Liverpool Football Club so far this season, with the Reds benefitting more than any other Premier League team.
The data from ESPN shows that, so far this season, Liverpool would be in danger of facing a relegation battle had it not been for the intervention of VAR.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have had more decisions go their way thanks to the technology than any other Premier League club and have thus gained the most points.
In their 19 fixtures, they’ve already benefited from six points – the equivalent of two places in the table – which leave them nine above 18th-placed Bournemouth.
Notable VAR-influenced moments include Mohamed Salah’s goal that rescued a point against Brighton, as well as Phil Foden’s disallowed goal against Manchester City.
Meanwhile, teams at the bottom end including Leeds United with five lost points and Aston Villa with four potentially have VAR to blame for their current league position.
