Super Eagles and FC Nantes of France winger, Moses Simon, played a crucial role in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over the Palancas Negras of Angola in the quarter-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

Simon, who won the Man of the Match award, provided the assist for the winning goal. During the post-match news conference, Simon revealed that he was initially undecided on whether to pass the ball to Victor Osimhen, take the shot himself, or find Ademola Lookman.

However, he ultimately made the selfless decision to pass the ball to Lookman, who capitalized on the opportunity to score the winning goal.

He expressed his happiness not because he won the Man of the Match award, but because the Super Eagles advanced to the semi-finals of the competition.

The winger highlighted that in their team, it doesn’t matter who scores the goals. The focus is on winning the match rather than putting pressure on one individual to score.

The Super Eagles began with a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, followed by a 1-0 victory over the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire and a 1-0 win against Guinea Bissau in the group stage.

In the round of 16, they defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 2-0 before securing another 1-0 win against Angola in the quarter-finals.
