The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has filed a fresh case against activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, over allegations of forgery and false publication – www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to details from the Federal High Court in Abuja, the charge is marked FHC/ABJ/CR/374/2025 and lists Sowore alongside his platform, Sahara Reporters, as defendants.
Court filings alleged that Sowore and his outlet conspired to forge a police wireless message said to carry the signature of the principal staff officer to the IGP.
The first count accused the defendants of plotting to commit forgery, an offence punishable under Section 1 (2)(C) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
In the second count, Sowore was accused of fabricating the said police signal, which also carries the same penalty under the law.
The third count claimed that Sowore intentionally published the fake signal on Facebook “with the intention to incite members of the force and the public into mutiny against the federal government.”
The planned arraignment did not hold on Wednesday because prosecutors were unable to serve Sahara Reporters, named as the second defendant.
Prosecuting counsel Wisdom Madaki informed the court that they would explore substituted service through newspaper publication.
Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the case until September 15, when Sowore and Sahara Reporters are expected to be arraigned.
