Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has announced the appointment of a transition committee to facilitate the smooth handover of power to the incoming Governor, Dr Alex Otti.
The committee will be chaired by Chris Ezem, the Secretary to the State Government, and will comprise commissioners for works, environment, public utilities, information and strategy, and homeland security.
The Governor’s announcement came in a statement signed by Ezem, which stated that the committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure that there is a seamless transition of power from the outgoing administration to the incoming one.
According to the statement, the members of the committee are expected to be sworn in on Wednesday at the Deputy Governor’s office in Umuahia.
The announcement of the transition committee comes as the state prepares for a change in leadership following the successful conclusion of the gubernatorial elections in the state.
The outgoing Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been in office since May 2015 and is set to hand over to his successor, Dr Alex Otti, who was elected on the platform of the Labour party.
The transition committee is expected to oversee the smooth transfer of power from the outgoing administration to the incoming one, ensuring that all government agencies and departments are well-coordinated and that the handover process is conducted in a transparent and orderly manner.
