The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the full timetable for the 2026 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States, outlining key dates for party primaries, nominations, and campaign periods.
According to The Sun, INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu confirmed that Ekiti State will hold its election on Saturday, June 20, 2026, while Osun State will go to the polls on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
“In line with the requirements of the law, the commission is under legal obligation to publish the notices for major elections, not later than 360 days before the date fixed for the election,” Yakubu said during the swearing-in of six new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja.
For Ekiti State, political parties will conduct their primaries between October 20 and November 10, 2025. INEC’s portal for uploading nomination forms will automatically shut down at 6:00 pm on December 22, 2025. The final list of candidates will be released on January 18, 2026, and public campaigns are scheduled to run from January 21, 2026, ending a day before the election.
In Osun State, party primaries will take place from November 24 to December 15, 2025. Political parties must upload nomination forms by February 9, 2026, at 6:00 pm. INEC will publish the final list of candidates on March 9, 2026, and public campaigning will be allowed from March 11, 2026, up until 24 hours before the polls.
