INEC Ordered to Accept Temporary Voters Card for Gubernatorial Polls

The Federal High Court in Abuja issued an order to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), allowing the use of Temporary Voter Cards (TVCs) in the upcoming March 18 governors and state houses of assembly elections.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted the request on behalf of two plaintiffs, who had duly been registered but not yet issued their Permanent Voter Card (PVC).

He declared that those registered with INEC should be allowed to vote using their TVC if they had fulfilled all necessary requirements for registration.

Furthermore, he called for equity, stating that what applies to the two named plaintiffs would also apply to all registered citizens who had received a TVC.

Victor Opatola, counsel for the plaintiffs spoke in favor of this decision, claiming it to be a victory for eligible voters unable to obtain PVCs before the election due to no fault of their own.
