Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has embarked on a two-day official visit to Syria, accompanied by a delegation of political and economic officials.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad invited Raisi to Damascus, where he was welcomed by Syrian Economy Minister Mohammad Samer al-Khalil upon arrival at the airport.

The two leaders will hold meetings to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral ties and sign political and economic agreements.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Defense Minister Mohammadreza Ashtiani are among the officials accompanying Raisi on the trip.

Raisi expressed his belief that the Syrian government needed to be strengthened following the civil war that began in 2011, and that Iran’s stance of resistance had been proven effective.

He emphasized the importance of enhancing relations between Iran and Syria in the political, economic, and security areas, stating that such growth would benefit both nations and the region as a whole.

Iran has been a supporter of Assad’s government throughout the civil war.
