Jack Grealish’s place at Manchester City appears uncertain after the England international was left unused during the club’s FA Cup Final defeat to Crystal Palace. Despite a £100 million transfer from Aston Villa in 2021 and a standout role in the 2023 treble season, his involvement has dramatically dropped.
According to a report by Mirror, Pep Guardiola addressed the situation after the match, confirming that a decision on Grealish’s future will be made at the end of the season. With just seven Premier League starts this campaign and two years remaining on his contract, questions are mounting about what comes next.
Guardiola made it clear that while he hasn’t personally discussed the situation with Grealish, key decisions will come from the club’s football department. With outgoing sporting director Txiki Begiristain handing over responsibilities to Hugo Viana, Grealish’s camp will be in talks with City’s leadership in the coming weeks.
“We didn’t talk, I didn’t talk with him. People don’t believe me, but these things belong to the agents and the club and Txiki, and in this case Hugo as well. Both will decide. What is going to happen will happen, but he has to come back to start to play minutes again,” Guardiola said.
Guardiola also acknowledged that Grealish, like any top-level player, is unlikely to be happy on the bench: “They are here to play and, when they don’t play, they are not satisfied. That is the normal position in all the clubs.”
With the transfer window approaching and Grealish’s playing time limited, speculation is growing that a move could be on the horizon. His absence during a high-stakes final only adds to the pressure on City’s management to clarify his role ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed his exit this summer. The 33-year-old playmaker will leave after ten years at the club, having lifted 16 trophies, including multiple league titles and the Champions League.
