Joe Ajaero has been sworn in as the new President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for a term of four years, succeeding Ayuba Wabba’s presidency from 2015-2023.
In his acceptance speech, Ajaero promised to pursue the interests and desires of Nigerian workers whilst seeking a platform to lift them out of poverty.
He sought to implement a new national minimum wage law that would better represent the socio-economic situation, as well as expand its reach to cover more employees.
Mr Ajaero also urged employers with unsettled issues with workers and unions to resolve them quickly to avoid NLC intervention.
Also, he requested that the government review its privatisation policy in the electricity sector due to corruption concerns.
Additionally, other members were appointed such as Prince Adewale Adeyanju (Deputy National President), Kolawole Sunday (Vice President), Williams Akporeha (National Trustee), Babatunde Olatunji, Mohammed Ibrahim and Haruna Ibrahim (Internal Auditors).
