The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have been barred from going on strike over the removal of petrol subsidy, according to a ruling by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja.

The federal government had requested an interim injunction to prevent the unions from proceeding with the planned strike, which was due to begin on Wednesday.

The presiding judge, OY Anuwe, ordered the unions to suspend the strike until the ex parte motion filed by the government had been heard and determined.
