Orlando Pirates have entered the race to sign Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro, a move that is intensifying the battle among local and international clubs for his services. According to The South African, the Buccaneers are now competing with Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu FC, and Sekhukhune United to secure the Mamelodi Sundowns forward ahead of the new season.
Ighodaro, who made a strong impression during his loan at AmaZulu FC, has quickly become one of the most wanted strikers in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). His ability to consistently find the net and lead the attack has caught the attention of top teams both in South Africa and abroad.
“There are local teams apart from Kaizer Chiefs who are also interested in him. I can tell you that AmaZulu FC have already contacted Sundowns and the player’s representatives as they want to keep him (after the loan). And there is Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United. It’s believed that they have both been in touch concerning Ighodaro. It’s a matter of who comes up with the best offer,” a source close to the situation revealed.
Strong Competition for Ighodaro’s Signature
While Orlando Pirates are eager to strengthen their attacking force, they are not alone. Wydad Casablanca from Morocco and FC Baltika in Russia have also shown serious interest in signing Ighodaro. This international attention could make it challenging for local clubs to keep the striker in the PSL.
The same source explained that Sekhukhune United are moving quickly to secure Ighodaro as they look for a potential replacement for Andy Boyeli, who is attracting attention from Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
With the transfer window heating up, Orlando Pirates must move fast if they hope to outbid their local and international rivals.
