A major faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, Nigeria has announced its intention to defect to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Led by Shehu Sagagi, the faction cited a lack of internal democracy and nepotism by PDP’s national leadership as their reason for leaving.
Accompanying Shehu were 36 state executive members, over 700 local government executives, 8,000 ward executives, 44 national delegates and 1,452 ward delegates who also made the decision to join NNPP.
Among those present at the ceremonial reception was NNPP national chairman Rufa’i Alkali and vice-presidential candidate Isaac Idahosa in Kano.
According to Sunusi Dawakin Tofa from the NNPP campaign council “The PDP sabotaged itself by allowing mass defections such as Kwankwaso with his enormous followership across various states.”
The members expressed their confidence that presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso could lead them to victory at both state and national levels.
Thus concluded Sagagi’s joyous homecoming after having left with Kwankwaso for only a year prior.
