The Labour Party (LP) in Abuja has been thrown into disarray after two factions attempted to take control of the National Secretariat.

The clash took place during the screening of governorship aspirants for Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi elections, and it required the intervention of security operatives to prevent a free-for-all.

The party is now divided into two factions, one led by the National Chairman, Julius Abure, and the other by the acting National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa.

Supporters of both factions have laid claim to the party’s leadership, leading to a heated altercation.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, took to his Twitter account to mock the party’s leadership crisis, saying, “Behold the ‘new breeds’ that want to change Nigeria!”

The LP is known for its left-leaning ideology and has been a key opposition party in the country.
