Jonathan Joss, best known for voicing John Redcorn in the animated series King of the Hill, has died following a shooting incident in San Antonio. He was 59.
The incident occurred on Saturday, June 1, while Joss and his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, were checking mail at the site of their former home, according to Digital Spy.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, fled the scene but was later apprehended and booked on a murder charge.
“Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,” Tristan shared in a public post.
The emotional statement reveals that the couple had returned to the location where their previous home once stood before it was destroyed by fire, reportedly after enduring years of threats. Upon finding remains of a pet dog left in the open, the couple was overcome with grief, which escalated into a confrontation with the suspect.
The suspect reportedly approached them with hostile language and opened fire.
Jonathan Joss had a longstanding career in television and film. He voiced the character of John Redcorn on King of the Hill from 1998 to 2009 and recently returned to the role for the show’s revival. His acting credits also include appearances in Parks and Recreation, ER, Charmed, True Grit, and The Magnificent Seven.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Joss had recently married Tristan, with whom he was planning a new life. His death has sent shockwaves through fans and fellow actors who remember his contributions to television and representation.
