Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), held a high-stakes closed-door meeting on Saturday with former Interior Minister and ex-Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, at the latter’s Lagos residence.
While the exact details of their conversation remain undisclosed, insiders within Osun’s NNPP chapter suggest the discussion centered on national politics and the evolving landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Aregbesola, who recently led his faction—the Omoluabi Progressives—out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, has been at the center of swirling political speculations.
His dramatic departure from the APC, citing marginalization and internal strife, has fueled whispers of a looming shift to another political bloc.
Confirming the meeting, Osun NNPP Chairman Tosin Odeyemi shared images of Kwankwaso and Aregbesola, hinting at a possible realignment. When pressed for details by Punch, Odeyemi remarked:
“The meeting took place at Aregbesola’s Lagos residence. It underscored a mutual vision for strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and advancing national development. As the leading third force in the country, NNPP remains steadfast in its mission to reshape Nigeria’s political future.”
