A landlord in Lagos, Kehinde Davies, has been charged with assault on his female tenant and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
Davies, who is an auto dealer, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on May 4th.
The prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Ajayi, alleged that Davies beat his tenant, Nafisat Sanusi, on April 16th at his estate in Abule Egba.
The prosecutor also claimed that Davies’ conduct was likely to cause a breach of peace.
The defendant denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor requested a trial date and urged the court to remand Davies in a correctional center, but the defendant’s lawyer requested bail on the grounds that he is a first-time offender.
The magistrate granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and ordered that Davies be remanded in a correctional center until the bail conditions are met.
The case is adjourned until May 25th for mention.
