Ajax defender Jurrien Timber has announced his intention to leave the club this summer, sparking interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool.
While the Reds had been hopeful of securing Timber’s signature, United may have the upper hand with a better-stocked defence.
Timber, who can play both central defender and right-back, has confirmed that he has made agreements with Ajax and that a transfer is “getting closer and closer.”
He previously played alongside United defender Lisandro Martinez and has spoken highly of the Argentine international.
However, both United and Liverpool may face complications in securing a deal as they prioritize other positions this summer.
United are focused on signing a new striker and goalkeeper, while Liverpool are looking to strengthen their midfield.
