The circulation of a purported judgment from the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has sparked intense reactions from both the APC and the PDP. These two major political parties were quick to dismiss the leaked judgment as fake, with each accusing the other of orchestrating the leak ahead of the official ruling.

According to Punch, the tribunal has been handling the petition filed by the PDP and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who is challenging the victory of the APC and Governor Monday Okpebholo in the September 21, 2024, governorship election.

Bala Ibrahim, the APC Publicity Director, firmly rejected the claims made by the PDP. He expressed confidence that the ruling party would emerge victorious when the tribunal delivers its judgment. He also pointed fingers at the PDP for allegedly leaking a fake version of the decision in anticipation of their loss.

Timothy Osadolor, the PDP’s Deputy National Youth Leader, was quick to turn the blame on the APC. He suggested that the ruling party was behind the leak to gauge public sentiment before the official judgment. He went further, criticizing the actions of the APC and urging President Tinubu to step in and prevent any interference with the judiciary. “The whole world is watching the outcome of his judgment,” Osadolor said. He called for the judiciary to remain free from political influence.

The accusations didn’t stop there. Ibrahim, in his response to the leak, emphasized that the PDP should be held accountable for the circulating judgment. He pointed out that if the PDP was aware of the leaked judgment, they must have had knowledge of how such information moves within political circles.

In a final statement, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, the APC Publicity Secretary in Edo State, dismissed the circulated judgment as “fake news,” attributing it to the governor’s opponents. He made it clear that such rumors should be disregarded and that the judgment is a matter for the tribunal alone until it’s officially delivered.

The true outcome, however, remains to be seen.
