Leeds sign 17-year-old Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge

Leeds United have made their first confirmed move of the summer transfer window by locking in a pre-contract agreement with Leonard Ngenge, a young Nigerian defender currently playing for Ikorodu City. The player is scheduled to officially join Leeds in August 2025 when he turns 18.

According to All Nigerian Soccer, Ngenge has already visited Leeds twice for training and assessment, impressing club staff enough to earn a future contract. He is regarded as a developing talent with strong potential for growth in English football.

“Ngenge has an existing deal with Leeds United, it’s a pre-contract. By August he should be joining Leeds… He came back like two weeks ago from Leeds. That should be his second visit to Leeds,” said Ikorodu City’s sporting director, Wale Quadri.

Ngenge will initially integrate into Leeds United’s U-21 squad, offering depth to their defensive ranks with room to grow into a first-team prospect. Known for his calm presence on the ball and ability in the air, he was recently named Man of the Match during Ikorodu City’s narrow 1–0 win over Lobi Stars.

This signing is part of a broader recruitment push by Leeds United as they return to the Premier League. Manager Daniel Farke, who recently guided the club to promotion, is already active in shaping the squad for top-flight competition. Summer business is expected to target multiple areas including goalkeeper, midfield, and attack.

Transfer links include Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher as a possible replacement for current goalkeeper Illan Meslier, and interest in Manchester City’s James McAtee to bolster midfield options.
