Lewis Hamilton made it clear that he will not be restricted from speaking his mind, despite the FIA’s recent update of their rules banning “political, religious or personal” remarks without prior approval.
Hamilton’s comments come after F1 boss Stefano Domenicali said he would never influence drivers in how they express themselves and fellow drivers Lando Norris and George Russell also voiced their discontent at the looming restrictions.
McLaren’s Norris had called for a U-turn by the FIA while Williams’ Russel said the FIA’s stance was “unnecessary”.
The seven-time World Champion denounced silly regulations that prevent people from expressing their views, saying this will not stop him from speaking out on issues he feels passionate about.
With the first race of the season taking place on 3-5 March in Bahrain, it remains to be seen what action, if any, is taken by the governing body as tensions between Formula 1 and the FIA are rising over whom wields control over Freedom of Speech and Political Expression among other topics.
