During the inauguration of the 10th Senate, former Governor and ex-Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, emerged as the Senate President.
The election was attended by all 109 Senators, who voted for key officials of the upper legislative chambers of the National Assembly.
Akpabio, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Akwa Ibom South-South, won with 63 votes, while his competitor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara North West, also from the APC, secured 46 votes.
Senator Ali Ndume from Borno South nominated Akpabio, while Senator Elisha Abbo from Adamawa North put forth the nomination for Yari.
A list has recently surfaced, revealing the senators who cast their votes for both candidates, although its authenticity has not been officially confirmed.
