Liverpool are reported to have accepted a bid worth a total of £30m for defender Sepp van den Berg from Brentford.
Van den Berg recently returned from an impressive loan spell with Bundesliga side Mainz and has been vocal about his desire to leave Liverpool permanently.
The negotiations with Brentford have made significant progress, leading to an agreement that could see Liverpool make more than they initially anticipated from the sale.
Brentford have agreed to pay an initial £25m, followed by an additional £5m in add-ons, for van den Berg’s signature.
However, the transfer has not been finalized yet as van den Berg is still considering his options.
Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen have also shown interest in the Dutchman, but they would only be able to rival Brentford if they sell one of their current centre-backs.
Florian Plettenberg recently revealed that van den Berg had spoken with Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso regarding a potential move.
However, Liverpool’s asking price was considered problematic, even before Brentford’s offer was made.
For now, Brentford remains the only club to have presented a concrete offer to van den Berg and the defender is eager to leave Liverpool after struggling to make a breakthrough at Anfield for five years.
