Luka Modric has taken a major step off the pitch by becoming a co-owner and investor in Championship side Swansea City. The Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder, currently 39, made the move while still playing at the highest level in Europe.
According to AFP, Swansea confirmed Modric’s involvement on Monday but did not reveal how much he invested. The veteran playmaker joins a growing trend among top players who are putting their money into football clubs before hanging up their boots.
Modric, who has played 13 seasons with Real Madrid, expressed his motivation clearly. He said, “Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase and the ambition to compete at the highest level. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help to build an exciting future.”

While the investment is confirmed, Modric remains focused on his current club duties. He is preparing for Real Madrid’s crucial second leg against Arsenal in the Champions League, where they trail 3-0 from the first leg.
His contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of this season. Modric joins teammates like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, who have also recently invested in lower-league clubs in France and Portugal, respectively.
