The second term bid of Governor Seyi Makinde in Oyo State is set to hit a brick wall in the forthcoming Gubernatorial elections in 2023.

Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan has said there may be an alliance among major political parties in Oyo State to defeat the Governor in the 2023 election.

The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in the South West stated this during an interview with journalists in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday.

Olopoeyan, who denied harbouring any ill will against Makinde, argued that the major political parties in the state might come together to guarantee that the governor failed to earn a second term in the 2023 governorship election.

He said, “Yes, it is possible for the merger of political parties to come into play again in 2023 in order to defeat Governor Seyi Makinde of the PDP. I cannot rule it out. It can happen.

“Makinde and I are not fighting. You should get it right—we are not fighting. But I cannot work for him. I have been talking about my working relationship with him and the efforts we made before he won the governorship election in 2019, from which I have not benefited.

“So, it is not possible for me to work with him again politically. Do you know that Seyi sees himself winning the next year’s governorship election? Any politician can only know whether he wins or who wins on election day. The evening of election day, when the counting of ballots is being done, is when you, as a politician, will know whether you are losing or winning.”

Meanwhile, over 1,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, Accord Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party in Oyo State have reportedly dumped their parties and joined the Social Democratic Party in the state.

The Chairman of Accord Party in the Oluyole Local Government Area of the state, Abiodun Akeyo, who led members of the party to the SDP on Sunday, said, “The governorship candidate of the Accord Party has hijacked the party from us, and he is also behaving as if he is all in all. We have serious crises in that party, and when he defected to our party, he promised to resolve all the crises in Oluyole LGA. All efforts to resolve it were unsuccessful.”

Similarly, Alao Michael, the Chairman of NNPP in Ward 5 in the same local government, also led members of the party to the SDP.
