Manchester United is reportedly keeping tabs on a number of managers, including Julian Nagelsmann, as they consider potential replacements for Erik ten Hag. Nagelsmann, who recently discussed the possibility of returning to Bayern Munich, has hinted that he is close to deciding his next move after the European Championships.

The 36-year-old coach had agreed to a contract with the German FA to coach the national team for Euro 2024. However, once the tournament concludes in mid-July, Nagelsmann will become a free agent. Several clubs have expressed interest in acquiring his services, with Bayern Munich even planning an ambitious bid to bring him back to the Allianz Arena, just a year after sacking him.

Manchester United is another club that has been linked to Nagelsmann, especially with Erik ten Hag’s long-term future still uncertain. Nagelsmann’s agent, Volker Struth, provided an update during a recent appearance on the Spielmacher podcast, revealing that talks had been held with Bayern and that a decision regarding his client’s next move was imminent.

While Struth did not disclose the names of the interested parties, he emphasized that it would be nonsensical to deny ongoing discussions. Nagelsmann spent two successful years at Bayern’s Bundesliga rivals, RB Leipzig, before joining Bayern Munich.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen remained tight-lipped when asked about the potential return of Nagelsmann, simply stating, “We’ll see.” Manchester United, now under the control of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, is considering multiple names for the managerial position.

Alongside Nagelsmann, potential targets include Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter, and Thomas Tuchel, who replaced Nagelsmann in Munich. The club is currently assessing its options following a disappointing season and considering whether Ten Hag will remain in his post long-term.

According to ESPN, up to 10 managers are being considered to step in should Ten Hag’s position become untenable. Nagelsmann is among the names on this list. As the domestic campaign concludes, it has already been announced that he will be leaving Bayern Munich.
