Manchester United’s food hygiene rating at Old Trafford has been reduced from four stars to two following the discovery of a mice infestation.
Mice droppings were found during an environmental health inspection last month in a corporate suite and a food kiosk on the concourse.
The club clarified that no droppings were found in kitchens or food preparation areas.
The infestation is linked to the stadium’s location between a canal and railway line, with colder weather prompting pests to seek warmer, sheltered areas.
United are working with a pest control contractor and the local council to address the issue.
The club emphasized its commitment to restoring a five-star rating and maintaining high hygiene standards, with multiple weekly checks of all catering areas.
A United spokesperson confirmed that stringent measures are in place to ensure cleanliness wherever food is stored, prepared, or served.
This is not the first hygiene-related setback for the club; twelve months ago, United’s rating dropped from five to one after raw chicken was served at a corporate event, but it was later restored to four stars.
Old Trafford has faced other issues, including a leaking roof.
The club is considering a decision next summer about whether to redevelop Old Trafford or build a new 100,000-capacity stadium.
