Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt is currently being investigated ‘on suspicion of a hit-and-run’ near Bayern Munich’s training ground.
Reports suggest that the 24-year-old collided with a parked car while driving his £63,000 Audi Q8 e-tron on Wednesday morning.
A witness reportedly recognized De Ligt and contacted the police.
It is claimed that De Ligt drove away from the scene, leading to his car being towed and impounded.
If found guilty, De Ligt could face a fine or up to three years in prison.
Legal experts suggest that for De Ligt to be convicted, it must be proven that he was aware of the collision before driving away.
Recently, de Ligt was left out of Bayern Munich’s squad for the pre-season tour of South Korea, fueling speculation about his future at the club.
The Dutch defender has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, which would see him reunite with Erik ten Hag, his former coach at Ajax.
“We still have to wait and see whether de Ligt will come.” said Ten Hag when he confirmed the club’s interest last month.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s chief Max Eberl has remained non-committal, saying, “I will comment on the reasons when the time comes.” Until then, de Ligt remains a player for Bayern Munich and will continue to receive the club’s support.
