May Day protests erupted in France as demonstrators took to the streets to protest against the government’s proposed pension reforms.

Over 540 people were arrested across the country, with 300 of those arrests taking place in the capital city of Paris.

The protests turned violent, with aggressive protesters throwing stones and bottles at law enforcement officers.

In response, police officers used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowds.

The clashes resulted in injuries to over 60 protesters and 406 police officers and gendarmes.

The French Interior Minister, Gerald Darmanin, condemned the violence and unrest, calling for peaceful demonstrations in the future.
