Saturday’s Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool has been postponed due to the impact of Storm Darragh.
The match was set to take place at Goodison Park, marking the final Premier League meeting between the two clubs at the historic ground before Everton’s move to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next summer.
The postponement was confirmed by Everton in a statement released at 8:30 AM GMT on Saturday.
Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting, which included representatives from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council, it was decided to postpone the match due to the severe weather conditions.
Strong wind gusts and an amber wind warning in place until Sunday morning raised safety concerns for fans, players, and staff.
The club emphasized that the safety of everyone involved was their top priority.
Storm Darragh’s effects were widespread in the UK, leading to numerous sporting events being cancelled across the region, including games in the Championship and non-league matches.
Everton apologized for the inconvenience, confirming that tickets for the original fixture would remain valid for the rearranged match, with details to be announced later.
Despite the postponement, the rest of the weekend’s Premier League games are expected to go ahead as scheduled.
