A sock once worn by Michael Jackson during a 1997 performance in France just sold for a jaw-dropping $8,822 at a recent auction — www.naijnaira.com reports.
The sock was picked up by a stage technician near Jackson’s dressing room following his show in Nimes, southern France, according to interencheres.com.
The off-white sock, embellished with rhinestones and showing clear signs of age, was worn during Jackson’s HIStory World Tour.
He famously wore similar glittery socks during performances of “Billie Jean,” a staple of his live shows.
Auctioneer Aurore Illy said, “It really is an exceptional object — even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans.”
Originally expected to sell for between €3,000 and €4,000, it ended up selling for €7,688.
Another Jackson item, the hat he wore just before his iconic moonwalk, fetched over $80,000 at a Paris auction in 2023.
Back in 2009, a resort in Macau paid $350,000 for the glove Jackson wore during his first televised moonwalk in 1983.
Despite numerous controversies, including accusations denied by his estate, Jackson’s memorabilia continues to attract global interest.
He passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 from a drug overdose but remains one of the most collectible figures in music history.
