The states where the coverage will be available include Anambra, Borno, Delta, Edo, FCT, Imo, Kano, Lagos, Rivers, and Oyo.
Among these states, Lagos will have the highest number of areas with access to the service, with 80 areas covered.
FCT will have 42 areas, Rivers will have 30 areas, and Oyo State will have 13 areas covered.
The remaining states will have fewer areas covered, with Anambra having 6, Borno having 3, Delta having 2, Edo having 6, Imo having 4, and Kano having 7 areas covered.
MTN Nigeria had previously announced the pilot phase of the 5G service in August, following its acquisition of the 3.5 Gigahertz (GHz) spectrum license in December 2021.
MTN has confirmed that it has no intention of shutting down its existing 2G and 3G networks in Nigeria.
The company recognizes the importance of catering to the needs of subscribers who still rely on these technologies.
While the focus is on expanding and improving the 5G network, MTN understands that there are still users who require the lower technologies.
The 3G network, for example, may be utilized for other services in the future.
MTN Nigeria is committed to ensuring that no one is left behind and will continue to support subscribers on all networks while encouraging the transition to higher technology.
As the number of users on older networks decreases over time, appropriate decisions will be made accordingly.
