Two influencers, Tobilola Olamide (TobiNation) and Babatunde Peter Olaitan (TDollar), have been convicted for tampering with Nigeria’s currency, the naira, following an incident that occurred on April 8, 2025, during a social event in Lagos.

The pair were sentenced to six months in prison, with the option of paying a N200,000 fine. Both individuals pleaded guilty to violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

According to report, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) launched an investigation after viral TikTok videos surfaced showing the duo spraying N200 notes while dancing at a nightclub. The EFCC’s investigation, which began on April 10, 2025, led to the identification and questioning of the suspects.

EFCC investigative officer Ibrahim Bukar explained that “Olaitan admitted to spraying the Naira at a nightclub after a fan gifted him a bundle of N200 notes.” The prosecution presented video evidence and the defendants’ statements in court, all of which were accepted by Justice Alexander Owoeye.

The court’s ruling underscores the importance of protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s currency, sending a strong message about the legal consequences of naira abuse.
