As the competition for desirable committee positions in the 10th National Assembly heats up, the names of certain lawmakers have reportedly emerged for various committees.
Senator Adeola Solomon (APC, Ogun West) is said to be in the running for the Appropriations committee, while Senator Francis Fadahunsi (PDP, Osun East) is being considered for the Customs and Exercise committee.
Additionally, Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central) has been named as the Chairman of an ad hoc committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The lobbying for these positions has led many members of the House of Representatives to meet with principal officers, including the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, in hopes of securing prominent committee memberships and chairmanships.
“The Deputy Senate President has been very busy; a lot of lawmakers both in the Senate and particularly the House of Representatives have been coming to him to help them plead with the Speaker to give them committee membership and chairmanship’” a source said.
