Italian Serie A leaders, Napoli, are determined to keep Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen at the Stadio Maradona Stadium.
Reports have linked the Super Eagles forward with a move away due to interest from Premier League clubs but Osimhen is committed to the cause and aims to help Napoli lift the league title.
Earlier in January 2021, Newcastle had tabled a €100m bid for him which was rejected by Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Now, De Laurentiis is looking into renewing Osimhen’s contract, which expires in three years’ time.
“De Laurentiis is working hard to renew his contract. The current constraint until 2025 would protect the club, but the salary of €4m net risks being too low not to lead the player into temptation,” Area Napoli reports.
Napoli have made it clear they will not let Victor Osimhen leave the club this season, with the Italian side reportedly valuing the Nigeria striker at €120m.
The 23-year-old is a key component of Luciano Spalletti’s squad and Napoli are determined to keep hold of him.
“In August, Osimhenr’s price seemed indispensable: €100m and it is to be believed that this glittering season will lead to further raising his quotation in view of the summer.”
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has made quite an impression in his first year with the Italian club despite sustaining an injury and missing several games.
In 14 appearances this season, he has scored 10 goals and registered 3 assists – proving himself as a prolific centre-forward.
The Nigeria goal poacher was also recognized as the Best Young Player of 2021/22, beating out Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic, AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, and Sassuolo’s Gianluca Scamacca and Giacomo Raspadori.
Since 2020, Osimhen has scored 38 goals in 76 appearances with Napoli and leads the Serie A leaderboard with 18 goals (without counting penalty kicks).
This helped make Napoli the only unbeaten team in Serie A this season with 13 wins, 2 draws and 41 points so far.
