The National Assembly has released a statement on Thursday disputing reports that armed operatives of the Department of State Services were present outside the premises.
The Director of Information, Mr Agada Emmanuel, clarified that the National Assembly members were on recess and that all staff had not been put under any form of siege.
He further explained that the viral video was related to an incident in 2018 at one of the entrances leading into the National Assembly Complex which is currently under reconstruction.
Emmanuel condemned any malicious intent behind disseminating this false information as it would lead to instigating panic and chaos.
He urged security forces to investigate @chuwuebuka -the source of the tweet- in order to prevent such misinformation from spreading further.
