Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest protest song, “Tell Your Papa,” has stirred controversy, prompting the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to ban it. The NBC found the song inappropriate for broadcast because of its objectionable content.
In a statement, Susan Obi, the NBC’s Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, classified the song as “Not To Be Broadcast” (NTBB). She explained that it violated Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. “The National Broadcasting Commission has identified the song ‘Tell Your Papa’ as content deemed inappropriate for broadcast due to its objectionable nature,” Obi stated.
Abdulkareem is known for his bold, hard-hitting songs like “Jaga Jaga” and “Emilokan,” which challenge societal norms. His latest track, “Tell Your Papa,” continues this trend by delivering a provocative message that caught the NBC’s attention.
The ban marks the NBC’s effort to uphold broadcasting standards. The commission has urged media stations to avoid airing the song and maintain responsible broadcasting.
