New Facts on Discovered Stockpile of Cash in Emefiele's Home by DSS Emerges

On June 9, 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), due to an ongoing investigation of his office.

A few days later, Emefiele was taken into custody by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of Security Service (SSS).

Following his arrest, a video started circulating on social media platforms, including WhatsApp, claiming that money was found in Emefiele’s home.

However, it has been revealed that the video is old and originates from Sudan, where a large reservoir of cash was found at the house of Omar Bashir, Sudan’s ousted president, in April 22, 2019.

The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunaya, has confirmed that the viral video is fake.

Despite initial denial, the DSS has confirmed Emefiele’s arrest and assembled a team of interrogators to investigate the allegations against him.
