The Nigerian government has officially confirmed the shift of the 2023 population and housing census from its original date of 29th March to May, as the gubernatorial and state assembly elections were postponed by INEC.
This new decision was approved at the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed announced that an amount of N2.8 billion was approved for the National Population Commission (NPC) to purchase the necessary software for use in conducting this census.
He stated that this step was taken due to the postponement of elections, which would have hindered a successful census on the originally scheduled date.
